Today we travelled to Langley Colts for a morning kick off. We had three players unavailable today but welcomed Jazmin back after her injury. The main focus today was to play the passing game and try to avoid giving the ball away to easily. Molly took centre of defence pushing Jaz to the right back position, Molly was tasked in controlling the defence moving them up to catch Langley offside and to control marking against set pieces which she did very well today.
We opened the scoring with Jazmin moving forward from defence and her pass found Shannon who took the ball further forward and scored a good goal in the first 2 minutes of play. Shannon’s second came after Lauren had worked hard to find a shooting opportunity but frustratingly for her the shot hit the post landing in front of Shannon who calmly slotted the ball into the net. Most of this half the team played exceptionally well and we had a lot of possession due to the fact that their passing today was outstanding. It also helped that Casey was vocal today calling for the back pass to help the defenders who had limited options open to them. Leah played on the left of centre midfield a relished the opportunities to press forward and had a few chances herself to add to the score line. Defensively Leah was in the thick of things most of the time and deserved the joint Player of the Match accolade.
In the 34th minute possible the only mistake Sian made the whole game gave Langley Colts a chance to score when her attempted back pass was intercepted and their player scored, just one of those things that happen.
Second Half we started well as we did for most of the first half but conceded on a counter attack in the 49th minute, game 2-2. Five minutes later Eloise had created a shooting opportunity only for the ball to hit a defender and yet again the ball fell kindly for Shannon who slotted the ball home for her third goal of the match. We could and should have scored more with the chances we created but it was clear the girls were playing as a team and on more than one occasions were trying to set up other players to score rather than take the opportunity themselves. Jordan Nash today was so unlucky not to get at least one goal today and performed above her norm to be awarded the joint Player of the Match with Leah, well done Jordan.
Overall it was hard to pick a player of the match because there were so many players playing totally great football and all deserved the award. The attitude was great and the team work was exceptional today, thanks to you all a great game to watch and in long spells your passing and thinking was a joy to behold.
