Today we came up against a very well organised team who had the benefits of having substitutes. It was also the steep “new team” learning curve that was bound to happen.
Dispite all of this the 11 -1 score line didn’t show the heart and determination of everyone who played. From Gemma, in goal ,who constantly put herself between the goal and approaching ball. For Lillie, Frankie and new signing Becky in, defence, who all put up such great resistance againstSt. AlbansCity, our opponents. Our midfield team of Shannon, Amy,Sian, Carly Hamson and Carly Gilby were relentless in trying to find a way to score. We had three such chances in the first half, two from Carly Gilby and one from a corner taken bySian. In the second half we had two. The first of these came from a free kick taken by Carly Gilby which was initially stopped by the goalkeeper only forSianto run in and put the rebound into the goal. Unfortunatly this was disallowed by the referee due to being offside. The last came from a throw in from Carly Gilby to Carly Hamson .Carly Hamson, after controlling the throw in, played a quick one-two with Carly Gilby to advance intoSt. Albansgoal area.Carly Hamson’s shot was partially stopped by the goalkeeper but the momentum of the shot carried the ball over the goal line. This was our only fruitful attack on the St.Albans goal.
Everyone run themselves into the ground but no-one stopped trying. No-one let their heads drop or start blaming each other. Thank you, for behaving so maturely in the face of such a hard game.
Todays player of the match went to Amy Moore. This was of the relentless running she did in defensive midfield. For not backing out of challenges against much larger opponents.
Thank you all again for trying 100% throughout this game
